This book is a reminder to myself to never quit books halfway through, even if I believe I’m reading the most boring shit in existence. Sometimes things turn around and exceed expectations.
The synopsis and genres listed for this book don’t even begin to prepare the reader for what the story is really about. This is a lot darker than just a romance. The things that come to light about Sky and her past are truly disturbing, and for that I appreciate the author. However, for the first 50% of the book I pretty much just want them to have sex and get it over with so I could stop being so bored.
I don’t want to say that this book actually was boring, because I feel like I’m not necessarily the target reader. This is only my second New Adult book and I hated the first one I tried. This was significantly better.
This novel is completely heartbreaking if you can get past the skim-worthy writing and cringey character behaviours. (The main couple says “I live you” before they’re ready to say “I love you” and I just couldn’t take that seriously.) That said, I really liked the main character and I think the two have relatable and realistic personalities. I was also crying throughout the final half and anyone who can actually make me feel something without feeling like I was manipulated is talented.
The secondary characters were also amazing! Breckin, Sky’s new gay best friend, is someone I would love to hang out with. I was hoping for more time with Six as well. Once the main peeps got together the friends sort of faded out of the story, sadly.
I would definitely give this author’s later work another shot. It Ends With Us is on my to-read list.

The Book Armada 
I love how you honestly said how boring the first part of the book was. Happens to me many a times, when I couldn’t get past the first few chapters because they were so long drawing.

So boring! I think part of the issue is that you don’t really know where the book is going so there’s very little motivation to keep reading. I thought it was just a basic romance. Did you make it through to the end?

I haven’t read this particular novel but I have had my share of such pieces. There is one book which is a favorite of mine, Wuthering Heights. When I first read it in 8th grade I was so bored with the first 30-40 pages that I thought I will never make it to the end. But soon I started loving the next pages and then the entire book.

I’ve done that a few times as well. That’s why when I’m no enjoying something I either force myself to keep going or put it down with the intent of picking it back up after reading something else.
